At first sight, the Netopian people might seem strange to
our eyes. They are slightly taller than normal humans, and usually are rather
gaunt-looking, though some, such as the Veti, develop more muscle during the
course of their lives. Their eyes are always blue in color, with small pupils[1].
The world itself is vastly different from our planet Earth.
The sky is always a dull red, filled with stringy clouds that promote the
turbulent upper winds. Because of the pollution caused by industrialization,
barely anything grows without injected nutrition and artificial environments.
Technologically advanced throughways are the primary source of traffic
throughout the city, though as of now, no system of transportation has been
developed in the Dead Wood.
However in many ways they are quite similar to us. They have
hopes and ambitions just as we do, raising families and making friends over the
course of their lives. They sleep. They eat. They make mistakes. And they
eventually die.
But there is one truth that most on the planet are unaware
of, one which He Who Walks In Darkness
strives to keep from all who seek it. Not any truth, a mere accessory to the
common man – this was the truth in a
world of falsehood. Fantasy and illusion led the people astray from the Unseen
One, who sacrificed what was Dear to
Himself, that a hope might still exist for those who were led astray.
Some, after experiencing the joys of this truth and the hope
that it brought, hoarded it for themselves and lived lives of debauchery.
Others sought ways contrary to those of the Unseen One, seeking to spread the
truth in their own way. Only a few devoted ones were willing to leave their
comfortable place in the illusion and proclaim the truth, even at their own
peril.
This book chronicles what followed such decisions.

The only recorded exception is of the Vehimar, however a varied array of
medical transformation is the cause of this, not natural selection.
